"It's just one big rumor that doesn't seem to go away," the Scandal guest star, 41, told Kimmel of chatter that she and her talk show host wife are starting a family. "And at this point, I feel like I'm disappointing the whole of America  not just my mother."

De Rossi went on to say that she and DeGeneres are content for now to dote on their two nieces, a 5-year-old and an almost 3-year-old. "They're adorable and we love them and we play with them, and then we leave," she said of her brother Michael's daughters, Eva and Perry.

"You don't leave them in a public place, alone, by themselves, I hope?" Kimmel quipped with faux concern.

"No, no, my brother is way too smart to leave me alone with his children," the Arrested Development actress joked back. "It's supervised play, Jimmy."

Asked whether they think of her as a "cool aunt," given her status in Hollywood, de Rossi mused, "One of them, the younger one, she seems to think that I'm great right now, and I'm going to enjoy that for the next couple years."

And the older one? "She's 5, so she realizes that the other aunt  Ellen  there's a lot of perks that go along with that," the star explained. "There's free stuff, there's 'meet the pop star that she wants to meet,' 12 days of giveaways, obviously…She's a pretty good aunt to have. They watch her show every day, so they've wised-up now."
