Nicholas Brendon Seeking Treatment, Therapy After Buffy the Vampire Slayer Star’s “Embarrassing” Arrest

Nicholas Brendon is seeking treatment and therapy after his drunken arrest on Oct. 17.

Following his shocking arrest on Friday, Oct. 17, Buffy the Vampire Slayer star Nicholas Brendon is seeking treatment and help. The 43-year-old actor was arrested in Boise, Idaho for causing “malicious injury to a property” and “resisting and obstructing officers.”

The newlywed Brendon released a statement on his Facebook page on Monday, Oct. 20, apologizing for his arrest and blaming his actions on a combination of prescription medication and alcohol. 

“I apologize. Usually those words end a message like this but I am beginning with them to emphasize how much I regret disappointing my family, my fans, and myself,” he began his statement. “I can offer an explanation, but I make no excuse for my unacceptable behavior.”

The Whedonverse star went on to detail the reasons behind his outburst and bizarre behavior, which included damage to a downtown hotel.

“For the past 5 days, I have been taking prescription pain medication to help me manage a cyst behind my knee cap, which is scheduled for corrective surgery on Monday morning,” he continued. “I made the poor decision to mix this prescribed medication with alcohol. The result was embarrassing and unacceptable. I intend to seek appropriate treatment and therapy for my medical ailments as well as my emotional demons.”

The actor behind Buffy Summers’ best friend Xander Harris, who previously checked himself into rehab for alcohol problems in 2004 and was arrested in 2010 for felony vandalism, concluded by repeating his opening line.

“Again: I apologize,” he said. “Those two small words don’t begin to express my regrets, but they do mark the beginning of my recovery. During this difficult time, I appreciate understanding as I pursue rehabilitation — and I value support as I earn redemption with my family, friends, and fans.”
