Cuba Gooding Jr. Praises American Crime Story’s John Travolta: ‘Might Be My Favorite Costar of All Time’

Show me the compliments! Cuba Gooding Jr. sat down with HuffPost Live on Monday, February 1, and revealed why his American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson costar John Travolta might be the person who he has most enjoyed sharing scenes with.

Gooding, 48, who plays O.J. Simpson in the 10-part FX miniseries about the seminal murder trial, praised Travolta, 61, for creating so many “iconic” characters over the course of his career.

“People ask me what my favorite movie is, and I always say, ‘It’s my favorite movie experiences that I had on the set that I see as my awards for having the career that I have’ — Jack Nicholson, Robert De Niro and now John Travolta, who might be my favorite costar of all time,” the Oscar-winning actor said before adding: “Forgive me, Tom Cruise.”

Gooding starred with Nicholson in 1997’s As Good As It Gets, De Niro in 2000’s Men of Honor and Cruise in 1996’s Jerry Maguire.

Gooding then shared a tale Travolta told him about Michael Jackson initially offering “Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin'” to him to record before ultimately deciding to save it for himself. The tune became the fourth hit single off Jackson’s 1982 album, Thriller.

“It’s stories like that that are real rewards for acting with icons like that,” Gooding said.

American Crime Story premieres on FX on Tuesday, February 2, at 10 p.m. EST.
