‘Girl Meets World’ Actress Rowan Blanchard Identifies Herself as ‘Queer’

Rowan Blanchard

Label free is the way to be! Girl Meets World actress Rowan Blanchard took to Twitter on Saturday, January 16, to share her thoughts on the idea of sexuality and sexual fluidity.

“In my life — only ever liked boys,” she wrote. “However I personally don’t wanna label myself as straight, gay or whateva so I am not gonna give myself labels to stick with — just existing ;).”

The 14-year-old actress later added that the descriptor she prefers is “queer.”

“Yes, open to liking any gender in future is why I identify as queer,” she wrote in response to a fan’s question.

Blanchard has been vocal about other pressing social issues in the past. In August, she tackled the idea of “white feminism” by asserting that she believes commonly discussed topics like “sexual assault, rape, abortion, Planned Parenthood, domestic violence, equal education, and the wage gap” often overpower other equally important topics that affect women, such as “police brutality and race issues.”

“‘White feminism’ forgets all about intersectional feminism,” she wrote. “The way a black woman experiences sexism and inequality is different from the way a white woman experiences sexism and inequality. Likewise with trans women and Hispanic women.”

And in December, the eloquent teen actress criticized Taylor Swift’s “girl squad” to Just Jared Jr., explaining that the singer makes feminism look “one-dimensional.”

“Of course female friendship is a beautiful thing. It’s insanely powerful,” Blanchard told the site. “Sisterhood is something so valid and important when you are growing up that I literally think the essence of it should be taught in schools. But the ‘squads’ we see in the media are very polarizing. Feminism and friendship are supposed to be inclusive, and most of these ‘squads’ are strictly exclusive.”
