No drama here! General Hospital costars and real-life couple Kirsten Storms and Brandon Barash have made the mutual decision to end their nearly three-year marriage, but they say there’s no ill will between them.
“We are splitting due to the cliché irreconcilable differences, but we’re splitting amicably,” Barash told Soap Opera Digest. “We have every intention of remaining a family through this and co-parenting our kid and retaining a friendship in the efforts of raising her in a healthy environment.”
The couple, who tied the knot in June 2013, share one daughter, 2-year-old Harper.
“This was not a hasty decision; a lot of thought and therapy went into this,” the 36-year-old actor continued. But we’ve decided that raising our daughter in two separate homes would be a healthier choice for all of us.”
Storms, 31, agreed.
“We went to therapy for a long time, trying to figure out how to communicate better with each other,” she said. “It’s not anything that we dislike about each other.”
Storms, who plays Maxie Jones on the popular daytime soap, and Barash, who previously played Johnny Zacchara (he left the series in April 2013), secretly wed in an intimate ceremony in Las Vegas shortly after Storms’ first obstetrician’s appointment.
Despite the end of their romantic relationship, however, both Storms and Barash insist that they’re looking forward to rekindling their friendship.
“We are getting along, and I would say enjoying each other’s company more now that we don’t have the pressure of what comes with a relationship added on to that,” Storms said. “I think Brandon and I are really looking forward to getting our friendship with each other back.”
