Nick Jonas Honors Orlando Victims During 2016 iHeartRadio MMVAs

Wearing his iHeart on his sleeve. Nick Jonas took the opportunity of his acceptance speech at the Sunday, June 19, iHeartRadio Much Music Video Awards to remember the victims of the Orlando, Florida, shooting, and pay tribute to their families.

Taking to the stage to accept his International Artist of the Year award, the former Jonas Brother thanked fans for the honor before turning his speech to something altogether more important.

“It’s been a tough couple of weeks, a lot of hate and violence in the world, but it’s moments like this where we can all come together and celebrate the good times and be full of joy and happiness,” he said as he stood on the stage, clad in leather, holding his award in the air. “It’s a beautiful thing so thank you for this.”

“I dedicate this to all the families and victims of the shootings recently,” he went on. “We love you and we have not forgotten.”

It’s not the first time Jonas has expressed his emotions in the wake of the horrific shooting at Pulse, a popular gay nightclub, on June 12, in which 49 people were killed and 53 others wounded.

As Us Weekly reported previously, the signer, 23, was one of the thousands to pay his respects to victims at a vigil in NYC on Monday, June 13. He opened up about attending and speaking at the tribute during a radio interview with Elvis Duran.

“I’m humbled and honored to have been able to be part of it in any way and all I can say is I do intend on doing all I can to see a change and I’m proud to be an American. We have a responsibility to speak up about things we’re passionate about, regardless of our platform, how many followers we have,” he continued. “I cannot imagine the pain that the families of the victims feel and I humbly say that I’m here to support in any way that I can, and I’m so, so sorry for them.”
