Ashes to ashes, dust to side chicks. Two months after debuting the full Lemonade visual album, Beyoncé blessed us with the stand-alone music video for her defiant breakup anthem “Sorry.”
The epic black-and-white clip was finally uploaded to YouTube and Vevo on Wednesday, June 22, and now the Beyhive can watch the nearly five-minute Dikayl Rimmasch–directed video all day, every day. Sorry, HBO and Tidal.
The “Sorry” music video finds Beyoncé, 34, covered in body paint as she raps about sipping from her D’ussé cup while chucking her deuces up on a school bus.
Tennis pro Serena Williams also makes an incredible cameo as she twerks alongside Queen Bey, who belts the unapologetic hit while sitting upon her throne in a Southern Gothic mansion.
“She told me that she just wants me to dance, like just be really free and just dance like nobody’s looking, and go all out,” Williams, 34, told reporters at an event in Rome last month. “So that wasn’t easy in the beginning, but then it got easier. … I thought that particular song on the visual album was really a strong song, and it was also really fun at the same time.”
In the final moments of the video, Beyoncé rocks a Nefertiti-inspired hairstyle, fully embracing her effortless beauty as she sits on the floor with her arms behind her back.
In April, Beyoncé surprise-released her Lemonade album immediately after the accompanying 60-minute film premiered on HBO. The 12-track LP, specifically “Sorry,” sent fans into a frenzy as the entertainer addressed long-standing rumors about her husband Jay Z’s infidelity.
The unforgettable final line of “Sorry” — “He better call Becky with the good hair” — also caused quite a stir after fashion designer Rachel Roy seemingly outed herself as the mistress in question. The Beyhive ruthlessly attacked Roy, who later insisted that she isn’t “Becky.”
