Sand castle disco queens! Solange Knowles rang in her 30th birthday just like a fashionista should. The Saint Records label owner (whose birthday was Friday, June 24) took a group of her best girlfriends to San Patricio, New Mexico, where they had the best sleepover ever … and, naturally, a photo shoot.
The “Losing You” singer shared scenes from her trip with her 1.4 million Instagram followers on Monday, June 27. Against a clear blue sky backdrop, the younger Knowles looked resplendent modeling a Self-Portrait flounced off shoulder dress and flat strappy brown sandals at the White Sands National Monument. She didn’t need big sister Beyoncé’s wind machine as the desert breeze allowed her long black hair to fly freely.

And in another set of breathtaking photos shared Tuesday, June 28, Solange and her crew set major #squadgoals. Her group of girlfriends, including noted music video director Melina Matsoukas and Shiona Turini, who styled Beyoncé’s “Formation” video, wore plant-dyed silk Awaveawake dresses in the same rust-and-wine color palette in a variety of silhouettes.
Although sadly they didn’t take part in the photo shoot, Beyoncé (currently in the midst of her Formation World Tour) and Jay Z also attended the birthday retreat. TMZ reports that the couple flew in for an evening of pool parties, New Orleans–inspired grub and Domino’s pizza.

Amid the celebration that day, Solange took a moment to reflect on her journey. “Wore tap shoes and tutus every where 3-5 … Wrote/Released my first album for weird teenagers 15 … Gave birth to angel baby 18,” she captioned an Instagram of herself, giving a rundown of major moments for each year she’s lived. “I say all of that to say…don’t eveeer let anyone write your story for you.”
And, apparently, the fun isn’t over. Solange added that she’s taking a note from none other than Paris Hilton and having four additional parties … which should guarantee more amazing looks.
