Do you accept these rumors? The Bachelorette‘s Robby Hayes breaks down in tears in the Monday, July 18, episode during his hometown date over JoJo Fletcher possibly finding out about gossip centered on him.
The ABC dating series’ preview clip show Robby’s mom telling him that his ex-girlfriend Hope Higginbotham‘s roommate, Alex, has been telling people that the All-American swimmer ended the relationship in order to compete for Fletcher’s affections.
“Your ex’s roommate has made it look like you broke up to go on the show,” his mom says.
Robby gets emotional about this news and responds with, “See, I’m going to get really upset right now. JoJo has concerns about this, and that could make her question my honesty, and that’s bulls–t.”
“It just sucks so much because I’m in love with JoJo,” he continues. “I’ve worked hard and been honest with her to let her know that that is such a part of my past that it’s never going to come up again, and if that’s going to be the chink in the armor that doesn’t make this work, I’m going to be devastated. I just don’t want to get heartbroken again.”
Last week’s episode featured Fletcher expressing concern that Hayes might not yet be over his ex.
Last month, season 12 villain and snacking enthusiast Chad Johnson posted pics to Instagram of himself kissing Higginbotham. “A great girl like her deserves so much better than someone who lies, cheats and ends a four-year long relationship in order to pursue fame on a TV show,” Johnson captioned the post. “You’re amazing, I miss you already.”
The Bachelorette airs on ABC Mondays at 8 p.m. ET.
