Not so fast! Emmy Rossum denied that she secretly tied the knot with her fiancé, Sam Esmail, after a tweet from her Shameless costar Shanola Hampton sparked speculation.
After Esmail’s series, Mr. Robot — which he created, produced and directed — received six prime time Emmy Award nominations Thursday, July 14, several of his close friends took to social media to congratulate him.
“To the genius that is @samesmail CONGRATS on marrying my girl @emmyrossum, and oh and on SIX #EmmyNominations!” Hampton, 39, tweeted Thursday. Rossum, 29, retweeted the message, adding a smiley face. The actresses play best friends Fiona Gallagher and Veronica Fisher on the hit Showtime series.
Fans started to wonder whether that meant the pair, who got engaged in August 2015, had already exchanged vows in an ultra-private ceremony. However, the Phantom of the Opera star took to Twitter Friday, July 15, to clear up any confusion. She responded to an article that questioned if they were married and wrote, “hahaha nope not yet!”
The future bride and groom have kept their wedding plans under wraps and haven’t revealed when or where the big day might take place. They made their red carpet debut as a couple in June 2014 at the premiere of Cornet, which Esmail, 38, directed and Rossum starred in.
“He’s a bit of a nerd,” Rossum said of her fiancé during an interview on Live in 2014. “He doesn’t know chivalry too well, so we have to bust his chops a little bit and tell him every time a woman stood up and went to the restroom, he had to stand up.”
Previously, Rossum discreetly married music executive Justin Siegel in 2008, but they split in 2010.
