Oh, baby! Nameberry released its list of 2016’s most popular baby names so far Wednesday, July 6. Naturally, a handful of monikers with celebrity connections made the cut.
While Olivia holds the No. 1 spot for girls and Ezra is hanging onto the top title for boys a second year in a row, several of this year’s favorite names are seemingly inspired by Hollywood.
According to Nameberry, the Scottish name Isla (inspired by Isla Fisher) is No. 5 on this year’s list, while Aria rose to No. 12, thanks to Lucy Hale’s character in Pretty Little Liars as well as Maisie Williams’ role (spelled Arya) in the massively popular HBO series Game of Thrones. While not as high on the list, Khaleesi made it to No. 48 because of Emilia Clarke’s portrayal of Daenerys Targaryen, the Mother of Dragons on GoT.
Aside from TV characters, stars’ choices in baby names have also directly affected this year’s ranking.
Since Kourtney Kardashian welcomed daughter Penelope in 2012, the Greek name has climbed to reach No. 13. Violet and Hazel (the names of Emily Blunt and John Krasinski’s two daughters, while Violet is the name of one of Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner’s children) also leaped into the top 20. Charlotte — inspired by Prince William and Kate Middleton’s royal daughter, Princess Charlotte — landed at No. 3.
For boys, Silas, Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel’s 14-month-old son’s name, checks in at No. 7 and Levi, the name of Matthew McConaughey and Camila Alves’ little guy, plus Sheryl Crow’s kid, made it to No. 10.
Nameberry identifies which names attract the most views from nearly 40 million visits to its name pages in the first half of 2016. The list identifies the names with the most searches from parents-to-be. Check out its full lists for girls and boys below:
