Don’t you dare go there! Donald Trump was game for jokes at the 2011 Comedy Central Roast making fun of his hair, his business failures and even his sometimes seemingly inappropriate relationship with his daughter Ivanka. But there was one topic the real estate mogul banned from the otherwise no-holds-barred night of comedy.
According to Aaron Lee, a writer who has written for almost every Comedy Central Roast since Pamela Anderson’s 2005 tribute, the Republican presidential nominee insisted that jokes questioning his level of wealth were not OK.
“Each year, the ‘roastee’ has certain topics they declare off-limits,” Lee wrote on List on Wednesday, August 3. “It’s always interesting to learn what is ‘sacred’ for a celebrity.”
Trump, 70, allegedly did not want any jokes suggesting that he was “not actually as wealthy as he claims to be.” (The former Apprentice host has time and again refused to release his tax returns so far during his run for the presidency.)
According to Vulture, the business mogul has since similarly shut down any individuals questioning his wealth. In 2013, Anthony Jeselnik, one of Trump’s 2011 roasters, told the late Joan Rivers that “Donald Trump’s rule was: Don’t say I have less money than I say I do,” he said. “Make fun of my kids, do whatever you want, just don’t say I don’t have that much money.”
At the 2011 Comedy Central Roast, celebs had a field day bashing the entrepreneur.
“The Donald and I have a lot in common,” comedian Jeff Ross said. “We both live in New York, we both play golf [and] we both fantasize about his daughter.”
Snoop Dogg got in on the fun as well, joking that if Trump ran and won for president, it wouldn’t be the first time he displaced a black man, referencing current president Barack Obama.
