Not yet, at least! Natalie Portman teased during Jimmy Kimmel Live! that she’d rather not show her 5-year-old son, Aleph, any of her Star Wars films.
“He [hasn’t seen], but he knows about it, of course,” the Oscar winner, 35, told host Kimmel, 48, on Thursday, August 25.
“It’s kind of a shame because you know when I made it, I was like, ‘This is going to be the coolest thing, one day when I have kids, I can show them.’ And boys, of course, are obsessed with it and know all about it before they’ve seen it,” she continued. “Then I realized: I die in the movies. I feel like it’s kind of a scary thing to show your kid.”
Kimmel quipped, “It’s worse if he likes it!”
Portman played Queen Amidala in three of the franchise’s prequels, Star Wars: Episode I — The Phantom Menace (1999), Star Wars: Episode II — Attack of the Clones (2002) and Star Wars: Episode III — Revenge of the Sith (2005).
Portman and her French husband, Benjamin Millepied, met on the set of 2010’s Black Swan (another dark, dark flick Aleph is likely banned from seeing), where he served as a choreographer. They welcomed Aleph in 2011 and married one year later. The family of three lived in Paris for two years — where he was the director at the Paris Opera Ballet — but recently moved back to L.A.
“Everyone smiles a lot here. It’s so nice. They’re more cool in France. I didn’t realize I got used to it until I got here and I was so surprised!” Portman told Kimmel. “I feel there’s a lot of rules of politeness and codes of behavior there you have to follow. It’s a lot looser here.”
