It’s drivin’ Us out of our minds! Bell Biv DeVoe returned to the music scene after a 15-year break on Monday, September 12, with the release of a new music video titled “Run.”
The Erick Sermon–produced track (which first debuted in July and samples Notorious B.I.G.’s “Hypnotize”) perfectly matches the old-school hip-hop, new jack swing vibe of the group’s earlier hits such as “Poison” and “Do Me!”
“That’s why I’m not giving my all / When you act like you don’t care at all,” the threesome croons. “I guess I’m a sucker for love, but I believe in you, baby / So I never give up.”
Bell Biv DeVoe also announced their fourth studio album, titled Three Stripes ≡, on Monday. The LP, which serves as the follow-up to 2001’s BBD, is scheduled to be released on January 27, 2017.
The release of Three Stripes ≡ coincides with the Grammy-nominated trio’s forthcoming BET miniseries, The New Edition Story. The three-episode show, which airs early next year, will chronicle the lives and careers of Bell Biv DeVoe’s Ricky Bell, Michael Bivins and Ronnie DeVoe, who started their careers as members of the R&B group New Edition with Bobby Brown.
Bell Biv DeVoe released their first album, Poison, in March 1990. The successful disc spawned hits including “Poison,” “B.B.D. (I Thought It Was Me?),” “She’s Dope!” and “When Will I See You Smile Again?” The group later released two more albums — Hootie Mack in June 1993 and BBD in December 2001 — but neither reached the success of Poison.
