A new outlook! Jana Kramer opened up about her recent separation from her estranged husband, Mike Caussin, during the season 23 premiere of Dancing With the Stars on Monday, September 12. Watch what she said in the video above.
“I think this show will help me let my guard down,” Kramer, 32, said during rehearsals with her pro partner, Gleb Savchenko. “My personal life kind of took a hit. I have recently separated from my husband. I really think this process is going to be a huge healing process for me.”
Us Weekly confirmed late last month that Kramer and Caussin, 29, had separated after 15 months of marriage. Per Entertainment Tonight, the NFL player allegedly entered a rehab facility for undisclosed reasons.
Us broke the news that the couple married in Charlottesville, Virginia, in May 2015. They are the parents of daughter Jolie Rae, 7 months.
“It was definitely so hard because my priority is Jolie, but I wanted to show moms out there that we can do it, and we can have everything – we can still be extremely career-oriented and still be an amazing mom and be there for my daughter and kick ass,” Kramer added to Us Weekly on Monday about the split. “Obviously it’s a tough time but I’m excited to get my confidence back for the first time and feel confident in my skin and just learn something new, too.”
The country star put on a brave face as she performed in the DWTS ballroom on Monday night. She and Savchenko danced to a Viennese waltz to Ariana Grande‘s “Dangerous Woman,” which earned them a score of 27 out of 40.
“Can you do it over again? I wanted to make sure I was not having an X-rated fantasy. I cannot wait to see your rumba,” judge Bruno Tonioli joked of the sexually charged dance.
Fellow judge Carrie Ann Inaba added: “It was certainly not a traditional Viennese waltz and you don’t have to work on sexy. The lines are there. When you get the strength it is going to be incredible.”
Kramer received a lot of support from loved ones during her DWTS debut. Her former One Tree Hill costar Sophia Bush posted videos of the performance via Snapchat. “QUEEN,” the Chicago P.D. actress, 34, captioned one clip. In a second video, she added: “#TeamGlamer.”
Kramer’s baby girl even got in on the fun. The “I Got the Boy” singer posted an Instagram photo of Jolie Rae wearing a onesie that read “Team Mommy #TeamGlamer.”
