Teen Mom OG’s Catelynn Lowell Reveals When She First Started Smoking Weed: ‘I’m Not Proud of It’

Coming clean. Teen Mom OG’s Catelynn Lowell revealed in a new interview how old she was when she first started smoking weed. Chatting with MTV News, the 25-year-old reality star suggested that she regrets picking up the habit.

“I started smoking weed when I was probably around 12 or 13, when I was younger, which I’m not proud of,” the 16 & Pregnant alum explains in the clip above. “But that was when I was young and crazy.”

As viewers witnessed on the Monday, September 5, episode of TMOG, Lowell said that she intended to “quit smoking pot” after having a mental breakdown.

During the episode, the Conquering Chaos author’s husband, Tyler Baltierra — with whom she shares daughter Novalee, 20 months — called his spouse to ask where the “roaches” were.

The mother-daughter duo were en route to pick up Lowell’s new $3,000 mini-pig, an experience that sent Lowell over the edge. After realizing the responsibility of caring for the tiny farm animal, the young mother told an MTV producer named Jessica that she needed “extra help” for her mental health issues.

“I just feel like I need help. ‘Cause I wasn’t really feeling good this morning, and I was having a little bit of anxiety last night,” Lowell stated on the show before explaining that her hubby, 24, was concerned about her. “I just broke down and I was like, ‘You know what, I’m not OK … I do need mental help, something’s just not right.'”

As Us Weekly previously confirmed in March, Lowell entered an Arizona-based treatment program. “I’m seeking help for myself and my family,” she told MTV News in a statement at the time. “Thank you to all of my supporters. My family and I would appreciate some privacy at this time.”

In the video above, the Michigan native says that leaving Baltierra and their little girl for an entire month was particularly heart-wrenching. “I think the hardest thing about leaving my family to go get help was just having to leave them, period,” she admits. “Leaving my kid and my husband, that was the hardest part, honestly. Having to leave Nova and having to miss her for a month, that was the hardest thing about being away.”

Watch the video above. Teen Mom OG airs on MTV Mondays at 9 p.m. ET.
