“We were more than friends,” Darden, 60, told Entertainment Tonight about the Simpson case’s head prosecutor in an interview on Monday, September 19. “We were inseparable back then.”

When asked whether he would ever give the full truth about their relationship, Darden replied, “I think I have told the truth.” He continued, “In lawyer land, a half truth is a truth.”

The attorney said he “really can’t remember the details” of his time with his former colleague, but he claimed they never actually kissed. “I’m not a kisser,” he said. “Kissing is intimate. Kissing is more intimate than sex.” (Darden is currently married and has five children, two from previous relationships.)

He said that he and Clark have not spoken in years, but he is sure they would have a “great conversation” if they ever got back in touch.

“I think if I called her tomorrow, we’d probably laugh our butts off,” Darden said. “Talk about our kids, and people, and talk about how we miss some people from the trial.”

Clark — who is twice divorced and has two children — and Darden have found themselves back in the media spotlight earlier this year as the case surrounding the June 1994 murders of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman was the subject of FX’s acclaimed The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story. Sarah Paulson and Sterling K. Brown both won Emmys on September 18 for their roles as the real-life attorneys.

The miniseries hinted at the pair’s sparks, showing them flirting and even sharing a dance to “Who’s That Lady?” However, the real-life Clark played coy when Ellen DeGeneres asked her in a May interview whether she and Darden were indeed romantic.
