‘Dancing With the Stars’ Elimination Recap: Two Couples Went Home, Sasha Farber Proposed to Emma Slater

It was a bittersweet night in the ballroom on the Tuesday, October 4, episode of Dancing With the Stars. On one hand, Emma Slater and Sasha Farber got engaged. On the other hand, two couples went home. (The engagement probably outweighs the eliminations, but still.) Here’s how it all went down.

Sasha Proposes

Near the top of the show, Sasha and Emma performed a gorgeous contemporary routine together and kissed at the end. Tom Bergeron then shuffled over, complimented them on their chemistry and said he always thought Sasha “had the potential to actually host” while handing him the mic. Because they were most certainly under serious airtime constraints, Sasha didn’t beat around the bush.

“I’ve wanted to do this for such a long time,” he began as Emma realized what was happening. “I love you so, so much.” He then dropped to his knee, pulled out a ring and popped the question. Emma said yes as she burst into tears. Cue the streamers and group hug from the rest of the cast — who barely made it down to the dance floor before the show cut to commercial. It was short and sweet, but it got the job done.

Eliminations Begin

Then they started scrolling through who was safe and who was in jeopardy. Marilu Henner and Derek Hough were safe (which was somewhat surprising, actually), as were Calvin Johnson and Lindsay Arnold (which was less surprising). Two more couples — Maureen McCormick and Artem Chigvintsev, as well as Amber Rose and Maksim Chmerkovskiy — had also twirled through to next week.

But Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds and Allison Holker weren’t so lucky, and they became the first couple of the night to get sent home. They both seemed to expect this news after his disastrous dance last night, but they were sad just the same.

“I got a chance to dance for my mom, and my mom is proud that I came out here,” Babyface said after receiving the news. “I did the foxtrot. I did the jive. I did the Argentine tango.” He laughed and added, “I don’t know what that was that I did last night.” Still, he insisted he had an “amazing” time, and Allison had been “amazing.”

Eliminations End

In a shocking twist, James Hinchcliffe and Sharna Burgess, who had received the second highest score the night before, right behind Laurie Hernandez and Val Chmerkovskiy, were in jeopardy. They were joined by Vanilla Ice and Witney Carson, along with Jana Kramer and Gleb Savchenko. (Laurie and Val, Ryan Lochte and Cheryl Burke, and Terra Jole and Sasha Farber were safe.)

Ultimately, it was Vanilla Ice who was sent packing. “This is a magical experience,” he said of his time on the show. He called it a “happy experience” and said he’d been “honored” to have been a part of it. For her part, Witney praised Vanilla Ice as the “most hardworking man” she’d ever met. She also said he taught her a lot about life and positivity and raps — so hey, at least she has that.
