This week, viewers discovered that Rebecca (Mandy Moore) and William (Ron Cephas Jones) have long known each other — a secret that would shake Randall (Sterling K. Brown) if he ever discovered it.

Us Weekly chatted with Chrissy Metz, who plays Kate on the show, and she shared eight things about her experience on the show — and what we can expect in future episodes.

1. There are many more tears to come.

“We read the script and then we’ll go to the table read. Last table read, Mandy and I were bawling. We’re literally sobbing at the table, and everyone’s like, ‘Are you guys OK?’ We’re like, ‘I don’t know, are you?’”

2. We will find out more about Rebecca and William soon.

“You’ll definitely start to discover and figure out what’s been going on and why and how. It plays out, I think, in a timely fashion, but you will find out sooner than later.”

3. The cast already knows what happened to Jack (Milo Ventimiglia) and Rebecca’s marriage.

“We do know what’s going on and you will eventually find out what is going to happen. I don’t know how much they’ve solidified, but we do know.”

4. We’ll continue to follow Kate’s weight-loss journey.

“I think it’s so important to bring light to these taboo issues and to educate people, because as far as I know, there are people who are like, ‘Oh, plus-sized people or overweight people only just sit around and eat.’ And it’s like, ‘Hmm. Actually we don’t.’ And there’s this misconception of who we are or what we aren’t, so I think that one day, yes, it will be nice to have a role where I’m not only discussing weight. But I think that it’s part of the journey of art imitating life of this character. You have to educate people before you kind of just slap them in the face with something new, because they don’t know.”

5. Kate is breaking stereotypes of plus-sized people, particularly when it comes to dating.

“There’s this preconceived notion, I think, that if you’re plus-sized, you don’t feel confident, so you sleep around. And I know that that’s obviously a blanket statement, but I know how it has been brought up in conversations before, and I like that she is going to be a little more deliberate in what she’s doing and waiting to really find out does she really care about this guy and does he really care about her.”

6. Kate has kept her family together.

“You do realize that Kate has been the glue that held them together, because there’s this alpha male thing, you know, where Kevin (Justin Hartley) is like, ‘Well, I’m the guy!’ and Randall’s like, ‘Well, I’m the king!’ And then Kevin feels like everybody’s treating Kate differently because she has weight issues and Randall because he’s African American, and he’s like, ‘What about me? I’m basically raising myself.’ And so all of those dynamics are intertwined and definitely talked about and discovered throughout the season.”

7. Toby has his own issues.

“Toby might seem like this happy-go-lucky guy that just happens to be a bigger man, but he really has his own issues. And so, while he covers it up with comedy and self-deprecating humor, there really is a hurt man inside, and he and Kate have a lot more in common than what has been revealed so far. And they both start to understand that comedy censors tragedy, so you make fun of things because you don’t want to cry about it all the time, and that whether or not Toby says he doesn’t want to lose weight, we discover the reason why he gained weight, and that he does want to eventually lose the weight; it’s just not as important to him as it is for my character. In my mind — and they haven’t talked necessarily about his backstory — but like in my mind, he hasn’t been overweight all his life.”

8. Something happened in her childhood that made Kate insecure and now her confidence only comes through when she’s representing Kevin as his assistant.

“What you will find out through the younger Kate is that she is very headstrong, and when younger, she was really confident. And you see this incident happens, and her self-confidence starts to fade even though Jack, as her father, wanted to just love her unconditionally. People have their own opinions, but she really is smart, she’s savvy, and when it comes to somebody else, she can be bossy and kind of really headstrong about that, but not necessarily about herself because she hasn’t had that ability to kind of exercise those muscles for herself. But she does get stuff done, for sure, and you know she’s insecure. When it comes to her brother, she’ll do anything for him anyway.”
