Back together again! Will & Grace costars Debra Messing and Harry Connick Jr. reunited on his daytime talk show for an adorable interview, which airs on Wednesday, September 21.
The longtime pals fondly looked back at their time on the NBC comedy. Messing, 48, played lead Grace Adler opposite Eric McCormack (Will Truman) for eight seasons from 1998 to 2006. Connick Jr., 49, joined in season 5 as Grace’s boyfriend Leo Markus and appeared in 23 episodes. Watch them in a scene from the classic show above!
Fans of the beloved series often rooted for Grace and demonized Leo — especially when he admitted to cheating on her. “I got into so much trouble almost on a daily basis because people thought that, I, Harry [Connick] cheated on you as well as Leo cheated on you. People really think that stuff is real,” the former American Idol judge explained. “Actually, people would come up to me and say, ‘I hate Leo because of that.’ Then they would say, ‘I hate Harry because of that.'”
The hunky actor and singer would often get called out at airports, he revealed. “They’d say, ‘You cheated on Grace.’ [I’d say], ‘You know that’s a TV show right?’ We need to set the record straight that Debra and Harry love each other very much. Grace and Leo had some problems and I need you to help clarify.”
Messing happily obliged. To make the moment more dramatic, Connick Jr. even put some emotional music on in the background.
“Hi, I’m Debra Messing, star of stage and screen. As you know I played Grace Adler on the mega-popular, Emmy Award-winning smash hit program Will and Grace,” the Mysteries of Laura alum addressed the audience. “This wonderful man, Harry Connick Jr., played Grace’s love interest Dr. Leo Markus. I just want to make this perfectly clear he’s not really Dr. Leo Markus, he’s Harry freaking Connick freaking Jr. Please, America it’s time to let this go. Stop harassing Harry Connick Jr. It wasn’t real. Thank you.”
