They’re in this together! Minnie Driver plays matriarch Maya DiMeo in ABC’s comedy Speechless, and her character gets an unwelcome lesson about architecture in the series’ Wednesday, October 12, episode, as seen in Us Weekly‘s exclusive sneak peek.
The family sitcom’s preview clip shows Maya helping son J.J. (Micah Fowler), who has cerebral palsy, brush his teeth. As she wheels him out of the bathroom, she realizes that the door is a bit tighter than she realized.
“Damn you, narrow door,” the harried mom quips. “You didn’t win yesterday — you’re not going to win today. It’s stuck!”
When her youngest son, Ray (Mason Cook), needs to pee, Maya tells him, “You’re the one that drinks water like we’re a two-bathroom family, Ray.”
She continues, “Use the one at the gas station down the street. Oh, and get me Lotto tickets while you’re there. Three, 12, 28 — just Quick Pick. Just get a Quick Pick.”
Finally, Maya begins to resign herself to their fate. “Oh, God, we’re going to die in here,” she tells husband Jimmy (John Ross Bowie), who is also imprisoned in the tight quarters. Jimmy optimistically fires back, “Together!”
Last week’s episode centered on the school’s football team inviting J.J. to their annual bonfire, leading Maya to get the event canceled over a lack of wheelchair access.
