Teen Mom OG’s Catelynn Lowell Talks ‘Rocky’ Relationship With Tyler: We’re Working on It

Keeping it real. Teen Mom OG’s Catelynn Lowell candidly discussed her “rocky” relationship with husband Tyler Baltierra during a Monday, October 10, interview with MTV News.

“Tyler and I — I feel like our communication has always been good,” the 24-year-old reality personality said, as seen in the clip above. “Sometimes rocky, I feel, like when it’s going through hard times because — especially with my mental illness — you don’t want to put everything and all that stuff on another person.”

As fans have seen on this season of TMOG, Lowell entered a monthlong Arizona-based treatment program for mental health issues and marijuana use. After the 16 & Pregnant alum returned home to her family in Michigan, her hubby, Baltierra, 24, was advised to be delicate when talking to his wife about her recovery.

“But he’s also very good at, like, listening and giving me an opinion, you know, and what he feels,” the Conquering Chaos author explained to MTV News. “But I feel like communication is always something that you’re working on in a relationship anyways [and] trying to be as open and honest with somebody, saying things in the right way so it’s not gonna hurt someone’s feelings or scare them or anything like that.”

On last week’s dramatic episode, Baltierra bluntly told the MTV starlet that if she is unable to change her ways, he’ll “have to check out because [he’ll] get hardened [and] close everybody off.”

Though the couple’s most contentious fights have been about Lowell’s mental health and subsequent depression, the young mom — who shares daughter Novalee, 21 months, with Baltierra — says that her man has made a concerted effort to ease up on his delivery.

“Tyler definitely has been working also, yeah, with our counselor about how to say things the right way and the tone he says it and stuff,” she revealed. “So he’s working on himself too. It’s not only me working on myself, but he’s also in therapy working on himself as well.”
