Jenelle Evans felt helpless as Hurricane Matthew created massive amounts of damage and a climbing death toll over the weekend. “I wish I wasn’t pregnant at the moment so I was able to go volunteer and help these people in Florida and Haiti. Really breaks my heart! 😢,” the Teen Mom 2 star tweeted on Sunday, October 9, while revealing her hometown had been affected by the storm.
“My prayers are with everyone effected by the hurricane! This washed up on my hometown beach, Oak Island. Where my story began… 😞💔,” she shared on Twitter, along with photos of a refugee raft that had washed ashore in Oak Island, North Carolina.
As of Wednesday, October 12, the U.S. death toll from the storm had reached 27. Haiti, which was devastated after being blasted by the hurricane, has lost more than 1,000 people.
According to NBC News, U.S. Marines delivered food aid on Sunday, after Haiti’s government said more than 1.5 million people had been affected by the storm and that 350,000 of those were in need of immediate assistance. Since Matthew made landfall on October 4, a surge in cholera has also impacted the island.
“[The death toll] number is going to rise,” Missole Antoine, a hospital director in Haiti, told Reuters while discussing patients affected by the waterborne illness.
Us confirmed in August that Evans is expecting her third child. The MTV star announced the happy news on Instagram and Twitter on August 24. “Time to introduce the world to our baby girl soon, Ensley Jolie Eason. She will be arriving Jan. 28th. We couldn’t be any happier! 🎀👶🏼@uncledave01,” Evans wrote alongside a shot of herself posing in a river with her boyfriend, David Eason.
Evans and Eason recently made headlines after Us confirmed on October 4 that Eason was sentenced to 60 days in prison after violating a domestic violence protective order stemming from a previous relationship. (The New Hanover Clerk of Court’s Criminal office told Us that Eason has appealed the ruling.)
The reality star is already mom to 7-year-old Jace with ex Andrew Lewis, and 2-year-old Kaiser with ex-fiancé Nathan Griffith.
