Jana Kramer Raises Awareness for Domestic Violence Victims Ahead of ‘DWTS’ Performance: Photo

Jana Kramer is using her celebrity for good. The country singer, who is a survivor of domestic violence, raised awareness for victims ahead of her Dancing With the Stars performance on Monday, October 17.

Kramer, 32, posted a photo of herself in her dressing room and held up her ring finger, its nail painted with purple polish. “1 in 4 women will experience domestic violence in her lifetime and more than 3 million children witness it at home in the U.S. I am a survivor, myself,” she captioned the Instagram pic. “As a mother, I think of my own daughter—I want my daughter to know that no man should ever put their hands on her. This is why I am joining @safehorizon in painting my left ring fingernail purple to signify my vow against domestic violence.”

The One Tree Hill alum then encouraged some of her famous pals to join in. “I ask @sophiabush @carrieunderwood @kaitlynbristowe @kelliepickler to vow against domestic violence with me. Anyone can join us,” she wrote. “Together, we can #PutTheNailinIt.”

Later that night, Kramer earned a perfect score with her DWTS pro partner, Gleb Savchenko, for her sexy Argentine tango.

Kramer has been vocal about her past experience with domestic violence. Last week, she recalled the abuse she suffered at the hands of her first husband, Michael Gambino, and the day she thought he was going to kill her during an emotional interview on Good Morning America.

“I’ll never forget sitting in the bushes. I’m like, ‘How the heck did I — I’m hiding in my bushes — how in the world did I get here?'” she said on October 11. “This happened a lot. He would come home from a night out at the club and literally take me out of my bed and throw me onto the ground. He said he was gonna kill me, choked me, did all those things, and I was like, ‘This is it.'”

Kramer and Gambino were briefly married in 2004. He served five years in prison for premeditated attempted murder and was released on parole in 2010. He committed suicide in 2012.

The “Why Ya Wanna” singer, who is now separated from husband Michael Caussin, has spoken about her past during DWTS as well. (As Us exclusively revealed, the NFL player, 29, allegedly cheated on Kramer “multiple times” and is in rehab for sex addiction. They are parents of daughter Jolie, 8 months.)

“The feedback has been amazing,” Kramer told Us on October 10. “I read comments on Twitter all the time from people saying, ‘I was in a bad relationship and now I’m out and thank you for your story.’ It’s inspired me to know my worth and that was why I did it. To be able to help people.”

“[Jolie] is the sole reason I have all this strength and love,” she added. “I didn’t know I was capable of having that until I had her.”
