There were a couple of reasons he liked the name. “I’m an Iowan — to have a kid named Hawkeye [after the University of Iowa football team] — and it’s, like, MASH,” Kutcher explained, referring to the character Benjamin Franklin “Hawkeye” Pierce, played by Alan Alda on the Korean War medical dramedy that ran for 11 years, until 1983. “He could be a doctor!” the doting dad added.

“It’s just a great, cool name,” O’Brien agreed.

But “Hawkeye Kutcher didn’t fly,” the father of daughter Wyatt, 2, continued. “Didn’t get across the Mila threshold. It came to the threshold but then it got knocked down.”

Kutcher, who let slip during an interview last month that Kunis is expecting a boy, said that they have chosen a name for their son.

“We have a name dialed in, which we’ve had for a while,” he told O’Brien on Wednesday. “The problem is, if you get the name too soon, there can be slight trepidation around the name. So the other day Mila was like, ‘Do you still like the name?’ I was like, ‘Yeah.'”

“Why was it the high-pitched ‘Yeah’?” she responded. “Why wasn’t it the low-pitched ‘Yeah’?”

“And I was like, ‘Well, you like the name, right?’ And she was like, ‘Yeah.’ And I was like, ‘Wait, why did you say it like that?'” he continued. “So now we’re like, ‘Maybe we don’t like the name,’ even though we both love the name. So, I think we have the name.”
