Paris, je t'aime! Claire Fraser (Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) are living their best lives in the City of Light, by which we mean they're changing history while looking flawless in 18th-century couture. The problem? Their love life isn't exactly the steamy sexfest that it once was due to Jamie suffering from postassault PTSD and, to make matters worse, his rapist, Jack Randall (Tobias Menzies), is most definitely still alive.
Sleepless in Seattle Paris
Paris is great and all, but Claire's all about getting down to business and changing history. First on the list? Helping Jamie, who's been suffering from sleepless nights, thanks to memories of his time with Jack. Fortunately, Claire wanders into an apothecary and meets Maitre Raymond (Dominique Pinon), a fellow enemy of the Comte St. Germain (Stanley Weber), who gives Claire a tincture to help Jamie sleep at night. Raymond seems pretty cool and all, but the sinister music playing when he speaks hints otherwise. Just saying.
Work, Work, Work, Work, Work
As anyone who's familiar with English history knows (guys? guys?), the Jacobite rebellion was spearheaded by IRL historical figure Prince Charles (Andrew Gower), who wanted to reclaim the English throne for the House of Stuart. Tragically, Charles' cause was doomed to fail, hence Claire and Jamie's obsession with changing history and sparing Highland culture and countless lives. Their plan? Jamie meets up with Charles at a local brothel, gets on his good side, and is eventually asked to get cozy with the French Minister of Finance, Joseph Duverney (Marc Duret), in the hopes of financing Charles' rebellion. You know what that means: time for Claire and Jamie to dress in their best and book it to Versailles!
Claire's Bringing Sexy Back
If Jamie and Claire want to cut the Jacobite rebellion off at its head, they need to make sure it never gets funded — which means heading to court and convincing Duverney that Prince Charles is not a reliable investment. Which brings us to Louise de Rohan (Claire Sermonne), Claire's fashionable new friend who a) gets them an invite to the palace, and b) inspires Claire to wax her lady parts for Jamie. His reaction? Saying, "Your honey pot is bare" (um, amazing) and taking a trip down south. Sadly, instead of a typical Outlander lovemaking session, Jamie has a flashback to Black Jack and is unable to continue getting jiggy with it.
Ghosts of Ex-Girlfriends Past
Time to party like it's 1999! (Or, you know, several hundred years prior.) Claire and Jamie head to Versailles looking the very definition of bomb, and then things get what can only be described as whack. Jamie ends up joining a group of men watching the king attempt to have a bowel movement (yes, you read that right), while a scandalously dressed Claire attempts to befriend Duverney, only to be propositioned for sex. Naturally, Jamie shows up and shoves him into a pond, but hey, everyone LOLs about it later, so no harm done.
P.S. Claire also meets Jamie's ex-girlfriend Annalise de Marillac (Margaux Châtelier), and let's just say she's all kinds of up on him.
Jack Is Back
So, wondering how Jack Randall fits into all of this? Turns out the Duke of Sandringham (Simon Callow) is at the king's party, and who should be accompanying him but Randall's brother, Alex (Laurence Dobiesz), who casually tells Claire that Jack is alive and well in Scotland. But will she tell Jamie the news? That remains to be seen.
