Giuliana and Bill Rancic on Breast Cancer, Having Kids and Renewing Their Vows

Needless to say, 2011 was a rough year for Giuliana and Bill Rancic.

While undergoing her third round of IVF treatments in an effort to conceive a child, E! News host Giuliana, 37, discovered she had breast cancer. She underwent a double mastectomy on December 13, followed by reconstructive surgery. Though it could have taken a toll on their marriage, the experience actually strengthened their bond.

“I think we take our wedding vows seriously. I think that was something, five years ago, that we took to heart,” Bill, 40, said during a visit to Us Weekly‘s New York City offices Tuesday. “One of two things happened when you go through this: you either have fear or you have faith. We have faith in each other, and that’s the one thing that I love about Giuliana.”

His wife added: “This really has brought us together — even closer than before. And I never thought that was possible, because we were so tight before. He’s my everything.”

The couple are planning to renew their vows this summer, and Bill is in charge of planning the ceremony. “I can control the budget that way!” he joked. “I’m no dummy.”

The two haven’t given up their dream of becoming parents one day, either. “As far as the kid stuff, absolutely. Hopefully we’ll have some good news soon,” Giuliana told Us. “We’ve definitely been on top of that, so we’ll see what happens. But we’re definitely not giving up, that’s for sure.”

The fifth season of Giuliana & Bill premieres Tuesday at 8 p.m. EST on STYLE.
