Hulk Hogan Gets Emotional Recalling Feeling Suicidal After Reality Show Ended, Says He “Hit Rock Bottom”

Hulk Hogan‘s fans may have saved his life. In a Nov. 17 episode of Oprah Winfrey‘s Where Are They Now? series, the 60-year-old professional wrestler recalled feeling suicidal after his reality show ended — and how his fans helped him realize his life was still worth living.

“Everything kind of went downhill really fast,” Hogan said, getting emotional while speaking to the camera. “There was an accident that my son was involved in and a good friend of ours was in the accident with my son. Just the marriage basically crashing an burning.”

Hogan’s wife Linda filed for divorce after 24 years of marriage in November 2007. That same month, their son Nick was indicted on four criminal charges following a car accident and later sentenced to eight months in prison. To top it off, the family’s reality show, Hogan Knows Best, was canceled later that year.

“After the show, I kind of hit rock bottom,” Hogan said. “Everything got dark, everything happened at once. I was drinking alcohol very heavily. It just all kept piling up. It just kept mounting and mounting, and I didn’t know how to handle it. I always wondered how could someone possibly take their own life? I got to that point where I thought, ‘You know what, maybe this would be easy. Maybe this would be an easy way to fix things.'”

Fortunately, Hogan had an epiphany while celebrating New Year’s Eve with family and friends in Miami.

“There was a bunch of negativity about the food being bad and the champagne didn’t work, even though it was all consumed,” he recalled. Stepping out for fresh air, Hogan was greeted by fans who shared their love for him. “It hit me that there is clean air and there is dirty air,” Hogan explained of the encounter. “Once I walked back inside again, I realized that I couldn’t take it anymore. I got sick and tired of being sick and tired.”
