Donna Summer, Queen of Disco, Dies: Celebs Tweet Condolences

Donna Summer's fans will never forget her. 

The Grammy-winning singer passed away at the age of 63, her family confirmed Thursday in a statement, and celebs flocked instantly to Twitter to share their condolences and memories.

Remembered as the "Queen of Disco," Summer helped influence the careers and sounds of stars like Madonna, Beyonce — and the late Michael Jackson, whose sister, La Toya Jackson, tweeted, "My condolence to Donna Summer's family & love ones. She will be terribly missed. She was truly the Disco Queen!"

Barbra Streisand, who sang the duet "No More Tears" with Summer, said in a statement to Us Weekly, "I was shocked to hear about Donna. She was so vital the last time I saw her a few months ago. I loved doing the duet with her. She had an amazing voice and was so talented… It's so sad."

Smash star and American Idol runner-up Katharine McPhee wrote, "RIP Donna Summer…hope you're dancing up there."

Actor and performer Neil Patrick Harris shared, "Donna Summer passed away today. Same day as Jim Henson, 22 years ago. In honor of both…" and included a link to a YouTube video of The Muppets singing Summer's "Hot Stuff."

"RIP Donna Summer! You were truly a game changer!" Mary J Blige wrote. Billy Ray Cyrus tweeted a similar message, writing, "RIP Donna Summer. Legend! Your music will live forever."

Comedian Sandra Bernhard wrote a serious message asking her fans to take "a moment please for the wonderful Donna Summer a beautiful person a great disco diva and revolutionary performer. it's just not right."

Summer is survived by daughters Brooklyn and Amanda, her grown daughters with husband Bruce Sudano, a fellow musician whom she married in 1980, and Mimi, her eldest daughter with first husband, actor Helmuth Sommer.

In a statement to The Associated Press, Summer's family said, "Words truly can't express how much we appreciate your prayers and love for our family at this sensitive time."
