Matt Lauer, Savannah Guthrie, Al Roker, and the anchors at Today celebrated “No Makeup Monday” by going on television with their bare faces.
As part of the “Love Your Selfie” series, the anchors along with Natalie Morales, Tamron Hall, Willie Geist, Hoda Kotb, Kathie Lee Gifford, and Carson Daly ditched their makeup for the NBC News morning program on Feb. 24.
“Did it get pale and pasty in here or is it just me” Lauer, 56, joked of the anchors’ makeup-free faces.
With no foundation or bronzer to hide beneath, some of the journalists admitted that appearing on high-definition TV was more challenging than everyday life. “There’s a difference in walking around your neighborhood without makeup and then being on national TV without makeup,” Hall, 43, who was also named a co-host of the third hour, said.
“TV is a little less forgiving,” Guthrie confirmed.
While Gifford, 60, insisted she felt perfectly fine without makeup, her co-host Kotb, 49, copped to wanting a little something to feel more like herself. “I like to have lipstick on,” Kotb said. “If I have nothing on, but I have lipstick, I feel better.”
