Charlie Sheen recently announced he healed "really quickly" after his 36-hour bender that landed him in the hospital, but his father seems to think he's in for a longer battle.

While in town to promote their adventure flick, The Way, Martin Sheen, 70, and son Emilio Estevez, 48, opened up about the Two and a Half Men star's latest antics to UK's Sky News.

"He's an extraordinary man," Sheen said. "If he had cancer, how would we treat him? This disease of addiction is a form of cancer. And you have to have an equal measure of concern and love and lift them up. And so that's what we do for him."

The Emmy-winner added he's not faulting his son, 45, for his latest misstep.

"You realize that we're not all on the same journey all the time, yet we have to love that much more," he said. "We have to be that much more present."

Estevez added that after watching decades of the actor's behavior, nothing really surprises him.

"You get used to it though, too," he said. "After 30 years…you just sort of, you build up an immunity, I guess."
