In 2008 Palin predicted that the controversial Russian president would invade the Ukraine (which he has now done), so Fallon set up a phone conversation between Palin and himself as Putin to discuss his future plans.

“Since you’re so great at guessing my next move, who do you think I should invade next?” Fallon jokingly asked Palin. “I’m thinking Finland, Sweden, I heard Jamaica’s nice this time of year.”

“My advice to you would be, you get those troops out of Ukraine right now!” Palin ordered.

“Whoa, whoa, Captain Buzzkill, it was joke!” Fallon quipped. “But seriously, I could have used your predicting powers in office March Madness pool. My bracket’s totally busted. How’s your bracket doing?”

“Ohh, thanks for asking! Bracket’s good! He’s going to be 6 this month,” the former Republican vice presidential candidate quipped, poking fun at her children’s unusual names. “And Bracket just went out with Track and Jacket, and he shot his first bear.”

The two continued riffing off of one another until the Alaska native mentioned that Fallon’s Russian accent sounded like Gru from Despicable Me. Naturally, this prompted them to launch into an instrumental solo rendition of Pharrell‘s “Happy,” which was on the soundtrack of the popular animated movie’s sequel. Fallon played the well-known tune on the Russian balalaika, and Palin picked up the flute for her own solo.
