Julian is an ancient name with a modern feel, one of the gentle boys' names that have been rising through the ranks since the late 1960s. Derived from the Roman Julius, which means "young" or "youthful," Julian is only one of several variations of the name that are finding new favor.

Other celebrity parents with sons named Julian include Jerry Seinfeld, Robert DeNiro and Lisa Kudrow. Forms of the name now stylish for boys include Jules, the French Julien, the Spanish Julio, and even the original Julius.

For girls, Julia is a classic in the Top 50, while Juliet (and French sister Juliette) is rising fast).  Juliana, Julianne, the Italian Giulia, and the sixties-style nickname Julie are other popular choices.

Julian Thicke's middle name, Fuego, is Spanish for fire. It provides an energetic balance for the softer Julian.

Other celebs who have used nouns as middle names for their babies: Minnie Driver, whose son is Henry Story, and Nicole Richie's son, Sparrow. One of his middle names is Midnight. (The other is James.)
