Chaz Bono Overcomes Shyness, “Shakes His Butt” on Dancing with the Stars

Shake what Cher gave ya!

Chaz Bono certainly put his assets to work on Monday night's Dancing with the Stars! The 42-year-old author-activist overcome his shyness and performed a spirited samba with partner Lacey Schwimmer. While the performance didn't land him at the top of the leader board, it did earn a standing ovation and praise from all three judges.

Schwimmer, 23, brought her father Buddy to rehearsal to help Bono "bring out the flash and flare that doesn't come to him very naturally" and him refine the technique of "shaking his butt!"

"Chaz's weakness with the samba is mainly just him being shy," she explained. "Him shaking his butt in front of millions of people is not his forte!"

But Bono hit the dance floor with "confidence," and Carrie Ann Inaba praised his performance for containing "the most dancing I've seen you do!"

Len Goodman wasn't quite as taken with Bono's samba. "Gallant effort," he said. "Technique was lacking here and there, but what I liked is that you came out and really gave it a go."

"You've got the bounce going. It was like a dribbling basketball!" Bruno Tonioli exclaimed. "You were giving the wiggle, which is not easy to do."

Tonioli pointed out, however, that J.R. Martinez — who received the highest scores of the night — was "a tought act to follow."

"I'm not JR," Bono said. "I know that."

But Bono and Schwimmer's scores were nothing to be sad about. The duo received 7's across the board.
