Sarah Michelle Gellar is going back to her roots!

The actress, now 34, will appear in an episode of All My Children before the soap opera airs its final episode this September. Gellar starred as Kendall Hart Lang on AMC from 1993 to 1995, and went on the very next year to become an even bigger TV star, playing the title role in Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Gellar confirmed the cameo while promoting her new CW show Ringer at the Television Critics Association conference in L.A.

"I can officially confirm that I will be doing a guest spot on All My Children," Gellar told Us Weekly Thursday. "When I heard that the show was canceled, I didn't understand. It just doesn't make any sense to me. So I called [the casting director]…and said I wanted to do something."

But Gellar won't be reprising the role of Kendall — now played by actress Alicia Minshew.

"I don't want to be Kendall, that's Alica's role," she said. "I just wanted to be a part of it. I have no idea what I'm going to do, so we can take suggestions, but I will be doing one day. I'm excited!"

All My Children debuted on ABC in 1970. It's not the only beloved soap to go bye-bye: One Life to Live airs its finale after 43 years in January 2012. Gellar isn't the only big star to get her start on AMC. Michelle Trachtenberg, Melissa Leo, Kelly Ripa, Josh Duhamel, Eva LaRue, Christian Slater, Rosie O'Donnell and Amanda Seyfried also had roles on the soap before moving on.
