Artist Camille Mondon, the painter who created the portrait of the idyllic beach, told Us Weekly: "I'm very proud. The president's office [has] given my paintings to the Pope and other important visitors. You could call me quietly famous. I remain to be discovered on a larger scale."

Mondon told Us he did the painting specifically for the royal newlyweds. "I work under pressure. I didn't sleep at night, but I had about 4 or 5 days to do it," he said. "It's a picture of a beautiful beach on Mahe. I didn't get to meet them, but I heard they were really happy with it."

Mondon noted that the couple seen in his picture "were drawn with them in mind."

"I wanted to make it look a bit like them, and I have two birds on the left for a bit of romance and love," he said. "It's special."
