Young Leo is worried about aging gracefully!
In the movie J. Edgar, Leonardo DiCaprio ages 40 years throughout the course of the film. But the 36-year-old star told Us Weekly Thursday at the movie's premiere in West Hollywood he hopes his silver screen transformation into old age isn't a reflection of how he'll really look in his golden years.
"I hope I don't look anything like that!" he told Us. "But they were very meticulous in trying to create a very overweight version of myself, but with Hoover attributes. So I think it was a combination of both things."
"The transformation was difficult in the sense that it was five or six hours of makeup a day," he explained. "You have to sort of slow down your pace. You have to change every movement and you have to speak in a way that gets the audience to believe that you have 50 years of political experience under your belt, which is something I don't have!"
The biopic, directed by Clint Eastwood, chronicles FBI chief J. Edgar Hoover from his 30s into his 70s; the film The film largely covers Hoover's role in the establishment of the FBI in the 1930s.
There's been speculation about whether DiCaprio's character (Hoover) and Armie Hammer's character, Clyde Tolson, were lovers. Eastwood, 81, explained to GQ magazine that the character's sexuality is not the focus of the film. "It's not a movie about two gay guys," the legendary actor-director said. "It's a movie about how [Hoover] manipulated everybody around him and managed to stay on through nine presidents. I mean, I don't give a crap if he was gay or not."
J. Edgar opens in theaters Nov. 9.
