Despite being one of the most famous women in the world, Britney Spears is relatively low-maintenance.

“I really just wear mascara all the time,” she says in the December issue of Lucky. “And powder, because I have zits.” The Louisiana native often receives free beauty products, but she rarely uses them. “I get, like, these giant boxes of lip gloss and nail polish, and it’s like candy.”

When she’s not playing the part of a chart-topping pop star, Spears — mom to Sean, 7, and Jayden, 6 — rarely gets dolled up. That suits her fiance, Jason Trawick, 40, just fine. “He says he doesn’t mind that I sit around in sweats all the time,” the musician explains. But even Spears has her sartorial limits: “I never wear socks,” she reveals. “I hate socks.”

Spears insists her everyday life is quite ordinary. “I work out. I swim. I play with the kids, I cook and I garden. We play Connect Four. We play Candy Land. Last night we read The Night Pirates.”

Should her boys want to follow in her showbiz footsteps, Spears would support them — even if she had her reservations. “If there was something  they really wanted to do and were passionate about, I’d encourage them to follow their dreams,” she says. “But I’d also be there behind the curtain saying, ‘No, don’t go out there.'”

The “Till the World Ends” singer adds that her sons are starting to notice how crazy her life can be at times. “They try to figure out where I go when I go to film X Factor. They’re like, ‘Mommy’s going off to be a superhero,’ and then I get back, and they just see me as Mommy,” she laughs. “And then when I’m back working on the show, they say, ‘Oh, Mommy’s a superhero again!'”

Being part of the Fox reality competition series with Demi Lovato, L.A. Reid. and Simon Cowell reminds Spears of her younger days on Disney Channel’s The Mickey Mouse Club. “As a child, when you think of being a superstar someday, you picture it like a dream world,” she tells Lucky. “It was so exciting! The way people talked and ate and how expensive it was … it was such a huge change for me.”
