Paul McCartney and Nancy Shevell are still basking in newlywed glow!
Married in England October 9, the couple came Stateside Thursday night for a Cinema Society screening of the Rhys Ifans-Vanessa Redgrave political thriller Anonymous at New York City’s Museum of Modern Art.
Slipping into the theater at the last minute, McCartney, 69, and Shevell, 51, kept a low profile. “Paul led the way to their seats and they were holding hands,” an eyewitness tells Us Weekly. “Both seemed very happy and accepted a few congratulations from acquaintances in the theater.”
Thursday’s outing is one of the first for the new Mr. and Mrs. Paul McCartney, who tied the knot in a small ceremony at the registry office in Marylebone. The intimate affair was attended by 30 of the couple’s close friends and family, including Ringo Starr and his wife Barbara Bach, George Harrison’s widow Olivia, Shevell’s son Arlen, and her cousin, Barbara Walters.
U.K. The Mirror reports that the couple snuck away to the private island of Mustique in the West Indies for some R&R at Mick Jagger‘s secluded digs following their wedding. A regular visitor to the area, McCartney is said to have wined and dined Shevell — his third wife — at Jagger’s beachfront villa, which normally costs $15,000 to rent per week.
The pair have planned a second wedding party for family and friends in New York City.
