No surprise here: Robin Williams' top Oscar hosting tip is to try a little improv.

"Just have fun with it!" the comic — who emceed the show in 1986 — told UsMagazine.com, at Monday night's Face of Tisch Gala, of his advice for this year's co-hosts Anne Hathaway, 28, and James Franco.

Williams, 59, even suggested Franco, 32, play off his role in 127 Hours as mountain climber Aron Ralston, who cut off his own arm while trapped under a boulder.

"It will be interesting because no one has any preconceived notions about James Franco," said Williams. "They're going, 'He's no comic.' And if he comes out with one arm, he's already starting up."

But the funnyman cautioned against getting too carried away. "It's weird, if you have too much fun with it, then they get angry," he told Us. "Like, 'They made fun of him! How dare you make fun of Jude Law?!'"

And if all else fails, "There is a bar in the Oscars," Williams said. "No one knows that, but it's in the basement. So remember that!"
