Russell Crowe received a lift from the U.S. Coast Guard while kayaking in Long Island, New York, September 1.
Crowe and his friend, personal trainer and gym owner Chris Feather, lost track of time and decided to head for shore when daylight began to fade. The duo beached their kayaks in Huntington Bay, New York, nearly 10 miles east from where their journey began.
The U.S. Coast Guard was patrolling the area when they heard Crowe, 48, call out to them from the shore around 10 p.m. EST, U.S. Coast Guard Petty Officer Robert Swieciki told the Associated Press.
The Australian actor and his friend paddled over to the boat, where the Coast Guard officers brought the men — and their kayaks — onboard.
"He just needed a little bit of help. He just got a little lost," Swieciki said. "It wasn't really a rescue, really, more of just giving someone a lift."
Crowe denied being lost via Twitter the following day. "We knew exactly where we were," he wrote. "Grand adventure, eh, Chris?" The Gladiator actor, who is filming the movie Noah in Long Island, also thanked "Seth and the boys from the U.S. Coast Guard for guiding the way."
