Good things come to those who wait! Bella Thorne didn’t want to be just another girl to boyfriend Tristan Klier, so she made sure what they had was real before sealing it with a kiss. Appearing on the cover of Seventeen‘s June/July issue, the 16-year-old Shake It Up star revealed that she and Klier postponed their first lip-lock for nearly two months.
“Tristan was not a relationship guy before me. On our first date, he thought I was going to be just like the other girls he had met who would always give it up and kiss him right away,” Thorne told Seventeen. “I waited six weeks—I had to make sure he was in it to win it.”
The Disney actress, who went with Klier to his prom in Sherman Oaks, Calif., in April, has a similar attitude toward sex. “It needs to be the most special, beautiful thing that ever happened,” she said of getting intimate with someone. “It should be a decision you feel right about. If you don’t feel 100 percent about it, then it shouldn’t happen. It has to be something you want with your whole heart.”
Of course, there’s more to life than boys—especially when you’re the star of a hit show and an upcoming movie. “I get my ambition from my father,” Thorne told Seventeen of her dad, Reinaldo, who passed away when she was 9. “There was no stopping him; it didn’t matter what anybody said. For me, I feel like it’s a cool way to bring into my life because he did great things in his life, and I want to emulate that.”
She’s off to a pretty good start. In addition to Disney’s Shake It Up, the teen star appears in the upcoming movie Blended with Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler.
“Drew is so positive and beautiful on the inside and out,” Thorne gushed of her costar. “On the set of Blended, she always had a smile and looked at the positive side of things. I learned from that, and I think other girls should, too.”
