Kathy Griffin says she isn't sure she still has a job at CNN after she accidentally cursed on-air.

"I don't know if I got canned," she said when Craig Ferguson called her up on his Late, Late Show Tuesday.

She then joked, "I don't feel I have really done a job well until I get fired. Am I getting fired from this phone call? Tell me what's going on."

Griffin, 49, came under fire when she dropped the F-bomb on a New Year's Eve special of Anderson Cooper 360° while discussing the "Balloon Boy" scandal.

She told Ferguson it was all "really a miscommunication" when she swore. She said she was just trying to explain how she was "amused" at how the boy's first name — Falcon — sounded like a cuss word.

"His own mother has an accent and there were times that it sounded almost as if she pronounced the name of her own child Falcon as a verb that adult film actors use when they're *******," she said.

"It's like what Shakespeare did – I am a wordsmith," she added.

But she said she's learned to watch her mouth since the slip-up: "I'm really on my best freaking behavior – it's killing me!"

Griffin may not need to worry about her future.

Shimrit Sheetrit, a CNN spokesperson, has said: "Stories about Kathy Griffin being banned from CNN are incorrect. No decisions have been made regarding next year's show."
