Calling all Gleeks! I'm sure you'll agree that one of the best looks on the Teen Choice Awards red carpet was none other than Miss Rachel Berry — or Lea Michele, as she is known in real life. I love that Lea wore her mane wild, a direct departure from the super sleek waves she usually sports.
Celeb stylist Mark Townsend created the look because "Lea wanted to look modern and sexy, and this bold style with tons of volume and texture was perfect for the occasion," he tells UsMagazine.com.
Townsend started by applying mousse to add weightless body, then divided the hair into five sections: one on top and two on each side and blow-dried with a big round brush. Then he spritzed Michele's locks with a heat-defense spray before curling 3-inch sections with a double-barrel curling iron to make waves. The finishing touch? Spritzing hair with hairspray while Michele's head was upside-down to boost body.
How did he get all that volume to last all night? "Right before she left her house, I gave Lea a mini Dove Hairspray to carry in her purse I told her to spary the sides of her hair just before she got out of the car for an added bit of staying power," Townsend tells Us.
