Broadway bound!
Scarlett Johansson will be making her return to the NYC stage in January in the revival of Tennessee Williams' Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.
The 27-year-old actress will star as Maggie the Cat opposite Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter star Benjamin Walker as Brick Pollitt, TheWrap.com reports. In the classic Southern drama, Maggie escaped poverty to marry wealthy Pollitt, but is unhappy in her sexless marriage. Other women who have played the iconic, vampy role of Maggie over the years include Elizabeth Taylor in the 1953 film, Natalie Wood in the 1976 TV version and Jessica Lange in the 1984 TV movie.
Johansson was last seen on Broadway in Arthur Miller's A View From a Bridge, which earned her a Tony Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Play. Cat on a Hot Tin Roof will be directed by Rob Ashford and is set to open Jan. 17 at the Richard Rodgers Theatre.
While Johansson prepares for her big Broadway return, her ex-husband, Ryan Reynolds, is settling into married life with new bride Blake Lively. The 35-year-old actor married the 25-year-old Gossip Girl star on Sept. 9 in South Carolina.
In the May issue of Vogue, Johansson admitted she was still hurting from the late 2010 divorce from Reynolds after two years of marriage. The Avengers star said their split was "comically amicable," but still "horrible . . . Of course it's horrible. It was devastating. It really throws you. You think that your life is going to be one way, and then, for various reasons or whatever, it doesn't work out." Still, Johansson has found love again with NYC ad exec Nate Naylor, whom she has been dating for nearly a year.
