Dr. Drew Pinsky is back on VH1 and ready to counsel a new group of patients.
Beginning production Monday on the sixth installment of Rehab With Dr. Drew that will premiere in September, Pinsky has chosen to forgo the celebrity route and instead focus on the struggles of real people battling alcohol and drug addiction.
"Many of our young adult viewers have shared with us that Dr. Drew and our multiple seasons of Celebrity Rehab has made them more aware about substance abuse. And a large number of them have asked for his assistance with their own challenges," Jeff Olde, VH1's Executive Vice President of Original Programming & Production, said in a statement.
"This season, the moment felt right to turn our focus from celebrities to young adults who could benefit under Dr. Drew and his team's expert professional treatment," he continued. "In some ways, we felt that stripping away the celebrity layer could reach even more viewers and touch them in a different way."
Joining Pinsky to help rehabilitate addicts this season are counselor Bob Forrest, psychiatrist Dr. John Sharpe, and resident technicians Jennifer Gimenez and Shelly Sprague.
