When it came time for Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg to pick out a ring with which to propose to his girlfriend of nine years, he went with what’s trending!
Zuckerberg, 28, and Priscilla Chan, 27, married Saturday in a small ceremony in the backyard of their home in Palo Alto, Calif.
The wealthy CEO went on the less traditional path and designed a simple ruby ring for Chan himself. The new bride flaunted her ring for her friends during a lunch date in Palo Alto Wednesday.
Despite his wealth increasing to $19 billion after Facebook went public Friday, Zuckerberg didn’t spend a fortune on the ring. According to the Daily Mail, one expert estimated Chan’s ring to cost $25,000. To compare, Angelina Jolie‘s recent engagement ring from Brad Pitt — which he designed with jeweler Robert Procop using “a diamond of the finest quality” — was worth an estimated $500,000.
For fans who like the ruby ring, Royal Asscher is offering a version of Chan’s bauble. A ruby represents passion and love and can be considered a sign of wisdom.
Low price tag or not, Chan joined other high-profile brides-to-be who’ve sported colorful engagement rings. Carrie Underwood received a yellow diamond from her husband Mike Fisher and Kate Middleton wears the late Princess Diana‘s stunning sapphire and diamond ring.
