Millions of TV fans worldwide saw what Carlton Cuse could do with strangers marooned on Lost's famous island, and now the former ABC showrunner is having his way with Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho thanks to a new deal with A&E.
Bypassing the pilot process, A&E has greenlit 10 episodes of Bates Motel, a drama inspired by Hitchcock's 1960 classic horror film, set to be executive produced by Cuse and Kerry Ehrin (Friday Night Lights, Parenthood).
Premiering in 2013, the series is described as "a contemporary exploration of the formative years of Norman Bates, relationship with his mother, Norma, and the world they inhabit," a network statement explains. "Viewers will have access to the dark, twisted backstory and learn first-hand how Norma helped forge the most famous serial killer of them all."
Cuse's new series isn't the only way Hitchcock fans are getting their fix of late. Also in 2013, Jessica Biel, Scarlett Johansson and Helen Mirren will join Anthony Hopkins for Alfred Hitchcock and the Making of Psycho, with Hopkins taking on the role as the legendary director.
Johansson will play Janet Leigh, the actress who appeared in the original flick as Marion Crane, the horror classic's infamous shower murder victim. Biel appears as actress Vera Miles, whose character, Lila Crane, Marion's sister, discovers the skeletal remains of Mrs. Bates.
