"I knew that nurses were always in demand and that I could have a fulfilling career in the health field," de Lesseps said on Forbes.com.

Her career aspirations were rooted in a job in a rest home. "I took every opportunity to chat with the rest home's elderly residents and found that I had an affinity for helping people," she said.

When a gig as a secretary didn't pan out, de Lesseps enrolled in nursing school. Her medical prowess and flexible hours especially helped when it came to booking modeling gigs. "I could do 'double duty' and serve as the medical staff for a shoot," she said.
