They’re three of TV’s biggest stars, but Parks and Recreation‘s Nick Offerman, 42, Revenge‘s Madeleine Stowe, 53, and Community‘s Joel McHale, 40, were not among those nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award July 19.
Offerman was previously slated to announce this year’s nominations with Scandal‘s Kerry Washington, 35, but was replaced by TV host Jimmy Kimmel, 44, due to weather-related travel delays on the East Coast.
Revenge — ABC’s surprise fall hit — garnered zero nominations, which raised a few eyebrows given its critical adoration and solid ratings. Stowe in particular earned raves for her performance as steely Hamptons socialite Victoria Grayson. According to Rolling Stone, she makes “everyone else in any primetime network drama look like a toothless simpering puddle of bunny drivel.”
For the third year in a row, McHale was ignored in the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy category. His NBC series did, however, earn its first nomination in the Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series.
Marcia Cross, 50, Eva Longoria, 37, Teri Hatcher, 47, Felicity Huffman, 49, and Hugh Laurie, 53, also failed to secure nominations, for Desperate Housewives and House M.D., respectively. The ABC soap (created by Marc Cherry, 50) and the FOX medical drama both ended in May after eight seasons. Kathryn Joosten, who played Karen McCluskey on Desperate Housewives, was nominated posthumously in the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series category. (The actress passed away in June after a long battle with lung cancer. She was 72.)
Other stars who were expected to receive nominations but didn’t include 2 Broke Girls‘ Kat Dennings, 26, Mad Men‘s John Slattery, 49, and Jessica Pare, 31, Boss‘ Kelsey Grammer, 57, Luck‘s Dustin Hoffman, 74, Survivor‘s Jeff Probst, 50, The Big C‘s Laura Linney, 48, and Fringe‘s John Noble, 63.
Several TV shows failed to be acknowledged, including FX’s Sons of Anarchy and Justified, FOX’s Family Guy and American Idol, HBO’s True Blood and Entourage, ABC’s Happy Endings and NBC’s The Office.
